Life On the Brink
Life On the Brink
Foodie Movie Night w/ my sister Sarah!
Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 120 of Life On the Brink!
We're back again with another installment of the Movie Night series, this time in a celebration of cooking, food, and the gathering that happens around it. I'm once again joined by my sister Sarah as we discuss our favorite "foodie" movies and how a movie night can be an extension of the onscreen meals. So fun, and perfect for this time of year!
We have quite a bit in common, mostly that we agree on a lot of our favorite movies and that we love a theme, so we always have a ton of fun when we have these chats.
Plus, Sarah shares a fun new recipe and I've got a new playlist of music just for this episode.

Anna, welcome to Life on the brink, a lovely little place filled with inspiration and creativity that is dedicated to enjoying life one day at a time, I'm Anna, and together, we're exploring the beautiful things in this world that fascinate us and often discovering something new. Hello, hello, welcome to episode 120 of life on the brink. And for those of you in the US, Happy Thanksgiving, this episode has been a long time coming, but I appreciate all of the love and encouragement and the patience that has been given to me as I continue to figure out how this podcast it fits into my new life As mama and this is our November episode. It's been in the works for a while, but I think it's going to be really good and kind of appropriate for today. But before we dive into the main topic of today's episode, I just want to catch up a little bit and say hi. Hope you're doing well. I have my Christmas tree up as I'm recording this, and I can't believe like this year, especially, it feels very surreal that Christmas time is back again. It's very sweet knowing that this is my first Christmas with my little baby, and I'm trying to just make it as simple and enjoyable as possible, even more so I feel like we always say that, like I just want a simple, restful Christmas, but then the difficulty comes when appointments and opportunities and all the social gatherings start showing up, and so I'm gonna cancel things, or I'm just gonna RSVP no to things I think, to the things that I really don't need to be at, you know? So if you are feeling like that as well, feel free to join me in in having an isolatory, I don't know if that's a word, but an introverted Christmas of just letting it be quiet and enjoyable, hopefully I'll be able to read a little more. Who knows? I am enjoying crocheting more these days. I'm drinking coffee a lot more these days, although I did get in the mail, I like to sort of in the place of an advent calendar. I did get some Christmas teas from David's Tea, my favorite company up in Canada. And so I know tea time is coming for me, and I'll share a link to the exact tea box blend that I got, or it's a collection, it's not a blend in this upcoming newsletter. So the December edition, if you're not signed up on the newsletter, you can do so for free on the website. But yeah, it's crazy. This year has felt very long, and yet I feel like it was just Christmas so kind of strange, the way the time has gone for me this year. But I hope that you've had, well, either a good, soft start to the season, or if you are rejecting the Christmas season until after Thanksgiving, then I wish you a happy weekend. Little Zoe is almost six months old now, and that's wild, and she's got a whole personality now. She's sort of sitting up a little bit more with help, of course, and is laughing and is just so observant and loves to look around, and it's really cute. When I hold her upright in my arms, she will sort of turn out and will throw her outside arm even further out, so as if to try and, like, roll over from my arms. But it just really It looks more like she's either in a pose or she's just it's very, very turned out. It's pretty cute, and she's starting to sleep a little bit more, which is incredible. It's not super consistent yet, but it is great. I'll take what I can get, and I've also really been enjoying the autumnal cooking and baking. This is just an excellent time of year for new recipes. My family went to the apple orchard near our home, and we do it every fall, and I got a whole bunch of apples, and have been baking since then, and I'll probably make something. With them for Thanksgiving as well. But that kind of leads me into today's topic. I have an interview today with none other than my sister Sarah. You all may remember her. I think the last episode she was on was last year, and she joins me typically for but not always for a movie night episode. We've also done an episode on party planning, but in the movie night series, it's been spring, summer, autumn, winter, holiday and spooky. And today, adding to the collection, we have foodie Movie Night, and that's kind of appropriate on Thanksgiving, as it's a pretty food centric holiday, and it's also just nice as we go into the Christmas season, the holiday season, but it's not necessarily seasonal in that way, but foodie movie night is something very unique and fun. And if you know from previous episodes, we like to sort of make a party out of a movie, in a way. You can make a movie night a little bit more special, if you if you want to, and you can add little touches here and there. So we touch on that a lot in this episode as well. Because movie, I mean, foodie Movie Night, it's just really asking for it. So today, especially, I invite you to make yourself a nice cup of tea. Feel free to pause before the interview portion, or a nice cup of coffee or apple cider. Maybe, as always, I will list the movies that we mention in the show notes and link any any things that we may talk about, and I'll talk about the playlist and whatnot on the back half. So without further ado, please enjoy foodie movie night a conversation between myself and my sister, Sarah. Okay, hello, welcome Sarah. Welcome back to life on the brink. Thank you. Yeah, it's been a while we I believe our last podcast together was Holiday Movie Night. Was it? I think so, yeah. So actually, now that you say Yeah, but it's been a while, and I thought this is the perfect time of year for movie night, and it's about time we continue this series. So to begin, well, how you doing good? My feet are toasty. I was very cold before the temperature has dropped. Yeah, it's very good. What are you drinking? Coffee? Coffee with some of that you didn't have half and half, so I use most of your your oat milk, creamer from Trader Joe's. Oh yeah, the cinnamon bun flavor. Yeah, she's dork still, but it tastes good. Yeah. And I'm drinking tea for once, because I've also been on the coffee, but I have the harvest herbal, whatever blend, also from Trader Joe's, sponsored by Trader Joe's. You love him, I sure do so foodie Movie Night, I think that it's safe to say that we are both quote, unquote foodies, in my mind, if well, I'll ask you first, what to you is a foodie movie? What does foodie movie mean to mean to you? Ridiculous? Well, I think a foodie movie is one that, well, a couple different things, and I have a few items here on my list that fit into a couple different interpretations of that silly phrase. The first is a movie that features food, food, but, but, but the kind of food that would be appreciated by somebody who would call him or herself a foodie. Okay, so maybe the Goofy Movie to Pizza gets an honorable mention, but that's not the kind gotcha gotcha foodie content. We're talking about if it, if it sounds a little rumbly, every now and then the jets are flying overhead, and we have limited time today because we're trying to work around Zoe's naps, so if it gets a little rumbly, it'll pass Yes, so I am tracking, go ahead and the second is a movie that makes you want whatever the food is that you're watching on screen, or features food heavily. Okay, you know that is enticing and appealing. That's, that's kind of what I said as well, like how I was going about making this list. And I also had like, in my mind, I was thinking about, like the action, no, like the, what the movie night would look like, The Gathering, the accompanying foods, you know? So I had celebration of food, yeah, uh huh. So I had that also sort of going to think like, what? Because obviously, I feel like every single one of these pics would be ideal for a movie night where you make the food that's in the movie and you eat it while you look at it. My favorite, oh, you know what we did mention in the Holiday Movie Night episode that we were gonna watch the holiday and we did do that last year. Yeah, it was so good, yeah. So we made charcuterie, just to, like, begin, like, snacky vibes. And then we made Fettuccine Alfredo, Christmas. Fettuccine, it was so good. And then what was like a milkshake, to imitate the frappuccino scene, right? It was like a mocha milkshake. But that was really, that was really good. Um, Movie Night. So all of these are basically ideal for that sort of thing. Would you like to go first? Or would I like to go first? Well, I feel like we can probably, at the same time, say at least one of the movies. Oh, yeah, first, let's knock off the movies that we have already mentioned in previous movie nights. Okay, well, then that's why I had one with a star right here, because I know that we discussed chocolate. So yes, chocolate, that was also on my like, asterisks. And we also had I picked up from the Holiday Movie Night episode, the movie last holiday. I almost said that one as well. Yeah, because there's, there's so many cooking montages, emerald is in it. Emerald himself. Yeah, I just want to mention how much I love that the movie features a cooking scene that also shows emeralds, TV show emerald live, in which he just think about that. He's just cooking for a live audience, and they are wild like wild. Every I've never seen such a capsule, any piece of any episode of emerald live. What a riot. So the fact that this movie features emerald live, yeah, I love it. Really great. Um, and then I believe, yes in I believe the spring episode as well. We talked about Julie and Julia. Oh, we did already, yeah, we did. Okay, yeah. But since it was clearly on your list, why don't you talk about it here today, I need to talk about the bruschetta. Oh, yeah, is it? Is it actually a bruschetta? Yeah, it's such a there's such a large pieces chunky, yeah? Heirloom tomatoes, yeah, yeah, yeah, the the grilled bread, yeah. I have a distinct memory of having gone to the farmer's market one Sunday, I think, and seeing heirloom tomatoes at the farmer's market. It was in like, middle school, you know, we were about that age, I think we went home and watched Julia and Julia, and I just wanted that bruschetta more than anything. And I started researching, like, how do I replicate that? Nobody had ever made me bruschetta, you know, like those I'd seen it made, you know, Rachel Ray made it, and stuff like that, but Giada. But I was like, I just really want that. That's on screen right there. Delectable. Never saw anything so delicious in my life, yeah, yeah. And for me, also the the lobster scene. Oh, they're really a lobster, okay, yeah. And oh, and the chocolate cake. I'm trying to think, Okay, go straight for the stew this, oh yeah, this piece that beef, yeah, or the representation of her eats, yeah. I don't know something about that. The the symbol, I think it's actually a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting and the almonds around it just feels so homey and sweet. Is it okay? I just love that. Yeah, there's tons and tons of recipes. Yeah. So those are three that we've already talked about, but we just had to address them right right now. I think there's one more that we have to address. Oh, just that is the clear out, like winner of this entire category, and what is? What is it? Is a ratatou rat. Um. Ratatou E is actually probably my favorite film. And every time I think maybe, maybe it's like, not as good as I remember it is. Let me watch it again, and it is 10 out of 10. Yeah, I'm like, I I. I actually want to say it's a flawless movie, like I don't actually think that even in this age 2024, where, you know, a lot of people, we think of ourselves as having a little bit more of an elevated taste. You know, we don't go in for so much, for cheesy and corny, and the writing has to be good, and all of that, that movie, 2009 wasn't it? 2007 I remember, I know seven gold, yeah, yeah. There's nothing, nothing wrong with pawn when it comes to gratitude. And I think that it's also nice that they have done no sequels with it. Don't touch it alone. Don't touch that dial. Leave it alone. All they did was make that ride, and that ride was fine, yeah? So obviously the ratatouille itself, but honestly, it's the soup, the soup, yeah, the mystery soup that we'll never know what it tastes like because we only saw the stuff that he added to it. We didn't see what the essence of it is, which is unfortunate. We only know it has a spicy yet subtle taste. And there's also the the omelet. Oh, that is good, yeah, yeah, no. It's a great movie in that it, it sparks creativity. It. I mean, I think we all agree that when you have a moment in your normal life where a bite of food transports you to a memory, we describe it now, all of us collectively as a ratatou moment. Am I right? I think so. Do you do this? Listener, tell us. Leave a you can leave a comment on the blog page. What is your ratatou moment hashtag? It's so good, legit though. Like, have you like, oh, like, a real two week moment, oh yeah. I just had, remember, we had, we went thrift shopping last week and we got pumpkin spice lattes, just, you know, 1220, yeah. Like, officially inaugurate the season. And it took me immediately back to New York City, and that's when I said to you, like, how amazing that I have an actual, like, NYC based autumn memory, because we went, This is wild. Our grandparents took us and our two younger siblings when we were in high school for like, two days just to see New York City, and it was very rainy, very cold, and then it turned snowy. And somehow I know that somewhere in that trip, maybe multiple times. I don't know, we were in a Starbucks and I had a pumpkin spice latte, perhaps for the first time. I don't know it just it came back so quickly. I had a sip of it, and I was like, I wonder what this thing tastes like anyway, because I forget about it. And then I had a sip, and I was in New York, so that was pretty wild. Do you have one? You know? I was trying to think because you were talking. I don't think I have one of something I've actually eaten recently that I can remember, you know, but similarly, last night, I was chopping some green onion, and for whatever reason, the smell of these scallions immediately smelled to me like not up close, like smelling it out of the pot on the stove, but like the smell in the air In the house of when mom used to make Carnegie Sadda, oh, which she hasn't like. She doesn't make that as much as anymore, you know, she makes it more like the faint onion in the air. Yes, that's interesting. Smelled so good. And what it did remind me of that took me back to immediately, was my kindergarten drawing that I have somewhere. One of those tell us about yourself sheets or something, homework, take homework, or show your parents or whatever. Like my favorite meal is, and you draw it on the little plate. And that's what I drew. I didn't even know how to spell it. Sure you can see on there, like, there's the beef, there's the beef, there's the rice, there's a little bit of corn on the side. That's funny. Okay, so we've touched upon the top. Um, but I still have, let's see 12345, other movies that I would like to mention. How many do you have at that point? I have, because I forgot that we talked about Julie and Julia already. I have at least two other ones, and I think I know one of your other ones really. So okay, because I'm I have on this, I don't think we're gonna have as much overlap anymore. I don't think so. Okay, um, I would like to begin with one you may not be thinking of, which is the Princess Diaries. I actually put that the corn dog, the corn dog. Why did it crunch like that? I don't know. No corn dog has never done that. I want a corn dog so badly right now. Well, not only that, there's the state dinner, the courses of state dinner. Oh my god. And not only that, the. There's the pizza with the m&ms on it, thinking about the ice cream cone. What ice cream cone? Oh, yeah, that ice cream cone. No, you're right. See good snacks. I feel like that one, yeah, the the pizza with m&ms, and then the ice cream and the and just like, well, because there's the iconic scene of the palate cleanser thing that could be like a lime or mint sorbet. You know, have that? Yeah, I think that's great. So you put an asterisk by that one. Yeah. I don't know why I forgot about the pizza with the Eminem. Just like, on the way over here, I was thinking about that corn corn dog, yeah, no, that is the best. And then there's so much like mustard as a kid, and I wanted exactly the way it showed. Well, there's also, like that scene at the beginning when they're having tea in the garden. I think that kind of counts. And there's so much talk of pears, always they're talking about pears. And I think that's nice. That is nice. Well, you should go again then, because, okay, we don't realize that we converged on that one. Okay, this is a movie I don't know if you've seen, so this will help Crazy Rich Asians. I haven't okay. This is not only just a fun movie all around, but there, there's a couple different scenes that are just like you really, really want to eat the food. One is when they arrive in Singapore, you meet. So I don't even know who these characters are, that they're met by some family, and they go to like, a night food market, and it's just like all these different vendors, and there's lots of imagery of them, just like eating all various Chinese foods. It's nice, yeah, it looks just really laid back and fun. And I'm like, I need to go to that market. Then there's an actual dumpling, dumpling, dumpling making scene, and that just feels very cozy. And it's also, you know, they weave metaphors and whatnot, and it's about family and home and stuff. But and then there's just, like a big wedding reception, which you don't see a lot of actual food, but it's just It's already in your mind from earlier in the movie. And so you just know the food would be spectacular at this wedding. It's got some few moments here and there, but the ones that it does have pretty amazing like that night market scene is really, really good. Sounds yummy? Yeah, so we should watch that. Why don't you say one? I don't know that you'll have. I I'm pretty sure you don't have this one. Okay, but the breakfast scenes in Phantom thread, I have phantom thread kitty me, not only that the mushroom omelet Don't, don't spoil, right? But there's a particular, there's a very, very specific mushroom omelet, I believe it is, and it's like a forbidden omelet, but it's so buttery, it's so buttery, and the breakfast scenes are like, they're important to the story, even, yeah, there's a lot of breakfasts featured. There's the one, yeah. Well, do you remember the one when he goes to the countryside, when he's like, at that inn, and he, you hear his breakfast order, it's delectable. And then there's tea at all the time, all the time. I can't believe you put phantom thread, I know, but mostly for the breakfast. I'm I it's this, it's this omelet. It's right near the end of the movie. We won't say anything about it. It's a very, very important part of the story. But this mushroom omelet, you just oh, it looks so delicious. And you wouldn't think, yeah, I'm feeling like a mushroom omelet today, but you really do. I just love mushrooms. Oh my gosh. So you had phantom thread too. Yeah, okay, maybe you won't have no You go ahead. Okay, you say one, I have two left. Okay, it's complicated. Okay, that's good. Yeah, I like that, several things. Well, first, she is a chef, and there's so much talk of kitchen, and she's also in her current kitchen a lot, lest we forget the lavender honey ice cream. Oh, I forgot about that. There's a whole dinner of um croak, Monsieur and salad, and then the ice cream, and then later on, there's, like, talk of this noodle thing. Everyone's like, looking for leftovers in the fridge, and they're like, is there anything of the noodle things? But I think she roasts like a chicken at some point. There's the fancy dinner, and then there's the bakery. There's like, a whole separate place. And there's a scene where Meryl Streep and Steve Martin are making, uh, well, they're calling it chocolate croissants, right? But the penal chocolate making scene, when I when, when Steve Martin says, What about a chocolate croissant? I'm like, This is gonna be. What's that show? Weeks like that you don't like, oh, Emily in Paris, yes, and that, it would be an Emily in Paris giving that to me your description of that series. But, yeah, no, that's pretty accurate. Love it, hate it. Um, but they you see, like, lamination. You see the fact that in order to make, like, a lot of beautiful ones you need, like, very specific equipment. Most likely he had to pick, like, one of the most, yeah, like, time consuming things, and they make only there for hours come pick, like a moth thing. Yeah. There's also a really cozy garden scene, if you recall, which to me, goes hand in hand. Her garden is, like, so bountiful. Oh yeah. I think she picking things in one scene. Oh yeah, harvest. And yeah. There's a lot of like, dinner table. I think that's what's nice about Well, generally, Nancy Myers is that there's a lot of scenes that are happening at the dinner table. I love that. Oh and, lest I forget, the scene when she bakes three pies. I don't know if you recall that, where she's just hanging out with her girlfriends and she's made three different pies. Yeah? It's a very foodie movie. It's just not at all the plot of the movie, true. It's so, yeah, this, that one, actually, I think, is pretty, pretty, all ornamental, yeah, but all over the place. Okay, I only have one left, so you go ahead. I'm pretty sure you're not gonna have this. Oh, okay, but maybe, I don't know, who know it might be your last one. Uh, Charlie Brown, Thanksgiving. Oh, I don't Okay. Oh, I need you to think about even the Thanksgiving dinner that Peppermint Patty complains about, looks awesome. Don't tell me that you don't want popcorn right then and there. What are the other elements of it? Though? It's like, well, jelly beans, toaster, but buttered toast, right? And isn't it? Pretzel sticks. Is that that sounds? That sounds right? Pretzel sticks. It's like all snacks, you know, because Snoopy made it, I know, made by the dog, and then there, there, but there's talk of the other Thanksgiving foods that you have to watch it in advance of Thanksgiving. I mean, yeah, who really watches anything Thanksgiving related after the holiday? But anyway, and it just gets you so excited for the meal, and then the little bit at the end. Yeah, the credits, the credit scene, carving the turkey, cutting the pie, yeah. And they don't even fade out when they're done eating the slice, like we, you know, or when, when they're eating it, we get to see the consumption of a full slice of pie. It's so specific. But I really love that. And I liked that. Even as a kid, it was like, We got to see that bird, that whole slice of pie. Yeah, they Anna. I feel like I played it with him. Yum. No, I did not have that on my list. Um, but I did have probably in a similar vein, where it's like one for the kids, you know, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Oh, haven't thought about that movie in a while, but there's such an over exposure to food that by the end of the movie, you don't want to eat anything, right? You have to finish about two thirds of the way, yeah. And that's, I guess, part of the plot, but I had to include it just because it food is the plot. Could not be more integral to the story, right, exactly. And then you any chance to eat spaghetti and meatballs? I love that. The jello I will pass on, however, yeah, oh, that's right, there's a good ice cream scene, but I think it would make a cute party. You know, that would be cute. And it's a it, I think that it's still a funny movie. It gets crazy towards the end, but like, what a specific brand of humor. Okay, so I also have on my list, like three, that kind of don't count, but I still had them on the list. Is it just one? Okay? It's two movies that I haven't seen, and then one movie that I only recommend part. I have a feeling I know what that one is, but that is, let's we have to recognize the Eat portion of eat. Pray, Love, okay, to me, you can just watch the first third of that movie, and you're good to go. But the Italy, that's the whole point of it. That's the Eat portion. And it's like, about the character falling back in love with life and, like, coming alive, in a sense, and making friends. And there's pasta, there's pizza, there's another Thanksgiving scene, actually, and it just it gives you, I love, that feeling of like, let us embrace life and therefore embrace food and wine and people so the Italian way. Yeah, yeah. So I had to speak about that, and then. In two movies that I have not yet seen, but that I are on my list to watch soon. So maybe we should just actually have a foodie movie. Okay, okay. One is babette's feast, okay, which I hear about whenever people are like, what's the most iconic foodie movie? So I know that we're, you know, perhaps we should have watched it in anticipation for this episode, but we will mention it anyway that it's meant to be very iconic in this sphere. And then lastly, big night, which is a Stanley Tucci and CO and it's about an Italian family restaurant that has a lot of cooking, apparently, so big night, ba, beds, feast and the Eat portion of Eat, Pray, Love that don't really count, because they don't really fit our criteria just yet. But yeah, had to mention them well, because I had forgotten about the other wonderful foods featured in The Princess Diaries I had just started at the bottom of my list to mention, like, a couple of movies that really, there's just one really good food in there that you always want when you're looking at it. And one is, of course, the Goofy Movie, two pizza slice with the I thought that that was in, is that in the second one? Pretty positive. Yeah, yeah. But I know what you're talking about that slice and one of the dogs, but also the piece of chocolate cake, the last piece of chocolate cake that Bob eats in the incredible Oh, no, you're right. Another perfect movie that I actually think that, after consideration over much time, I think that's actually my favorite movie, The Incredibles. Yeah, I think that's my favorite movie ever. Yeah, that's a good pick. But that chocolate cake is I asked when I was making all these considerations and thinking about sitting down to do this. I was talking about it with Christian as well, and and he said, Wait, I have one. There's a scene. What am I thinking of with? Like a burrito? You know, he's been on a burrito kick lately. He's been wanting a burrito every day. Think of what it was. I said it's Shrek too. Oh, oh yes, it is. They call it a wrap in the movie, yes. Oh no. It was the sourdough soft taco? Yes, yeah, one medieval meal. Yeah, that burrito, you're right. There is a crunch on that one as well. That's true. So that one's from Christian for you very good. Should we try to do any more rapid fire of just like individual movies to think? Was there anything? Okay, this is super obscure, and this is so stupid because there's not actually any food pictured, oh, or described, or anything. Do you remember in the Parent Trap? Oh, uh huh, the Lindsay Lohan parent? Yeah, where Chessie? That's her name, yeah, Chessy finds out that, yeah, it's her the chili, and she's crying, and she's Oh, the chili, yeah. But she says, are you hungry? Like I'll make you something. What do you want? And she says, I'll just whip up everything we've got. And I just sat there as a kid thinking about all the things, what is that? Whip up? Yeah. And the phrase I'll whip up, yeah, no, I know what you mean. Yum. Yeah. So COVID. I think that that one's a pretty good one too, because of the chili and the peanut butter Oreo. Oh, dessert, yeah, and wine until, okay, when Zoe's old enough, we'll do that one with her Parent Trap movie night. Yeah, yeah, that sounds good. Oh, I thought of one more of that, where it's just like one isolated food moment that would be in knives out there's a scene of a plate of beans. I think it is, yeah, when they're in the the cute little it looks like a tavern. Can I call it a tavern diner? I probably, yeah, yeah. But it's so woodsy and cozy, and she eats this plate of beans, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, it's like some people, I don't know, we didn't know, but I have beans. Yeah, I have made beans like that. And then there's so much donut talk in the latter half of the movie, the the donut analogy, yeah, oh, of course, yeah. I've seen this movie enough times. I gotta remember the donut Yeah? Really, it's the plate of beans that, yeah, and we weren't raised on beans, but like they, they make them look real good in that movie. I like it, yeah. Well, I'm surprised we had so much overlap, but, but also not so it looks like we have some homework in that we need to watch those two that we haven't seen. And you and I need to watch Crazy Rich Asians. In fact, when Josh and I, when I made Josh watch it with me the first time I, like, had dumplings and so nice. I tried to make it on theme, because it really is so foodie. And so if you're watching it, even if you have, like, a different cuisine of food. You'll be like, I need some don't blame right now. Okay, good. Do you have anything else to add in this sphere? Or about foodie movie night before we move on? Or no, if you've never done it before, do it. It's so much fun. It. I mean, even if it's a movie that you've seen. I mean, how many times have we seen the holiday honestly, but it's just that much more fun. Yeah, a theme, a theme. Okay, good. Well, I think we pretty much covered it. So transitioning, once again, I always like to ask my guests what their little joy is for this week or as of late. And that could be a physical thing, or it could be an intangible or just something small that has been brightening up your everyday. What do you got brightening up my everyday? Or, yeah, just like a normal thing, yeah, maybe this is too I feel like I always say a food or there's a story attached to it. That's fine, okay, well, I won't say a food this time. Well, wait, it did that would be on theme, wouldn't it? It would Yeah, oh, maybe I will say a food then, okay, I've got it. Okay. Last weekend, we went to stay with Ma Anna, yes. Oh, everyone will remember my Anna from last Christmas season. We had our interview with her, yes. And we had gone to the Renaissance Fair in Maryland. Oh, yeah, yeah. And she made this Mexican corn and bean salsa. And I know what you're thinking. Listener, everybody makes a Mexican corn and bean salsa that's so hack. This was an exceptional recipe. It was so so good that we ate it on shrimp tacos two nights in a row. Wow, what? Okay, it was a true It was meant to be like a salsa, or was it actually said as salad in the oh, okay, okay, okay. But was it with chips? Was there? Was it in the realm of, like, cowboy caviar, something like that? Yeah. And even though I like those kinds of things, none of them ever really made me think, Hey, how did you make that? You know, that's good. This one was very, very good. Actually, I'll just throw the whole shrimp tacos on there. That was a big joy two nights in a row. Well, I'm gonna see if I'll get the recipe from mo Anna and put it in the show notes, oh, and I'll put a little joy on top of the big joy. Oh, okay. Because what year is it now, 24 so what like three years ago when some of us in the family got COVID? Like when we all got COVID? Oh yeah. Well, ever since then, I've been kind of off human yeah. Oh yeah. So my sisters and my mom and several relatives had, like, a very long COVID side effect of their sense of taste being whack. And so are there? So, yeah, mom just said the other day that she still can't have human Cumin is like, 90% back to normal for me, Wow, because she put it in those shrimp, and I didn't even realize that it just tasted smoky, like the way Cumin is supposed to be, the pretty much the way it's supposed to taste. Because, at least, I don't know, like, a full year and a half ago, something like that, I probably it would have just been able to eat it, wow, wow, wow, wow. And it was delish. That's great. Yeah, little big joy. That's great. And, yeah, so do you think she it was a recipe? Did she make it from a recipe, or did she just make it up? It was a recipe, I think, okay, then I was also, it may have been handwritten, so it might have been a word of mouth type thing. Well, I'll get it from her, and I'll ask her how she made it, and I'll put it up in the in the show notes. Enjoy. Yeah. Oh, good. Okay, well, I can. I will. Unless you would like to share an album of music, I will just make a playlist, as I've done for previous movie nights, of collected soundtracks from the movies that we've mentioned today. Yes, that sounds good to me. Okay, because there's so much good music across what we've that's so true, yeah. And so if you'd like, you can find this playlist as well as all the rest of the playlist. You can just find my my link from Spotify, but all of this will be on the blog post at life on the brink. Dot live and yeah. So now I'm out of tea. I don't know how you are on your coffee, but I'm getting hungry. Sounds good to me. And there you go. I hope you enjoyed our conversation. We always have a nice time when we when we do these episodes together, and like I mentioned. And I will leave a link to the playlist and leave that in the show notes. I've made a playlist compiling the soundtracks from all the movies we mentioned, and I've also tried to make it nice and upbeat, so if you wanted to cook to it or something, it would be nice ambience for that sort of thing. I'll also leave some photos in the show notes of previous movie nights that have had accompanying menus, the holiday movie night for the holiday, the movie The holiday and other things like that. I'll put some photos in the blog post, which, of course, you can find at life on the brink. Dot live. That's where you can find links for everything, and it's sort of the hub for the podcast. And also, like I said, where you can sign up for the newsletter. For those who are signed up, you're gonna get it in your inbox next week, which is the start of December and really into the holiday season. I hope that yours is lovely. I will be back next month with the December episode. But until then, if you haven't heard previous Christmas episodes, there's so many different holiday episodes in the archives, so you can just go to live on the brink. Dot live. Go to the blog, the page with all the blog posts, and type into the search bar, holiday or Christmas, both of those words will will bring you to lots of fun episodes, including one of my favorite series I've ever done on this podcast, which was a two part episode series on reducing holiday stress. Love that I take my own advice every year, and then, of course, like I said, I'll be back with a new episode next month. I do just want to also make an announcement, as this is full of a community of lovely listeners that many of you I know have been listening for quite a while, and you may recall, last summer, I mentioned the beginning of a new musical venture with the trio that I sing, sing in and play in, called the True Tone honeys. And I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but earlier this year, we recorded our first album, and it is released as of November 23 our album is live and in the world, it's just called the True Tone honeys. It's self titled, and so I will leave a link to that in the show notes for today's episode, just in case. But you can also find us on streaming and on band camp. If you would like to buy the digital album, but feel free to listen. It's definitely been a labor of love and a long time coming. And for any of you that are listening that were part of the Kickstarter, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It's very cool, very surreal that this music is out in the world. And so just wanted to make a little quick plug for that, because it's something that's very special and lovely and a big part of my life, so just wanted to share that with you as well. Alrighty, I hope you have a wonderful week, a wonderful month, in fact, and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate today, I will be enjoying lots of good food and lots of good family as well. I hope that you're able to enjoy your day wherever you are as we get into the holiday season, thank you so much for listening. I'll be back next month with a new episode.
